Netflix's Ragnarok (Season 1 Review)

Ragnarok is a story about Norse mythology, the fight against industrial pollution and the coming of age, all in one. It centers on a dyslexic teenager named Magne, who is blessed with the power of Thor, the thunder god. It takes place in a little town called Edda in Norway. The dialogues are mostly in the Norwegian language.

It starts when Magne's mother moves back to her hometown after years away, bringing Magne and his brother along. Upon reaching the town, Magne experiences changes. He is now super-strong, fast and does not need his glasses anymore.

In school, Magne befriends a girl, Isolde who is very passionate in unearthing the industrial pollution that is affecting the town. The series kicks off when the girl mysteriously got into an unfortunate accident. Magne is left to continue Isolde's mission that puts him in the paths of creatures of Norse legends, making friends and enemies along the way.

Fortunately, he is (or as strong as) Thor. It is still not clear whether Magne is a descendant of Thor, Thor's incarnate or he just has Thor's powers. It would probably be revealed in the coming seasons.

Other than the components of the story mentioned earlier, I would also recommend to watch the series just for the sceneries of this beautiful little town of Norway. (Images: Netflix)
